COLUMBIA, Mo. — The No. 6-seeded Lyon College volleyball team had a rematch against No. 3-seeded Columbia College in the American Midwest Conference Tournament Quarterfinals. The Scots battled the Cougars in each set, but the hosts proved to be too much for Lyon as the Scots lost in straight sets.
Lyon concludes their season with an 8-14 record and 3-6 mark in American Midwest Conference action, while Columbia College improves to 15-6 and 7-2 in conference play.
The visitors from Batesville held an early 4-3 lead in the early stages of the match after a kill by Isabella Beasley (assisted by Kendra Davidson).
Columbia, though, would find their rhythm as they won the next ten rallies to take a 13-4 advantage midway through the frame. Lyon tried to cut into CC’s lead, but the Cougars held off the Scots to win the first set, 25-16.
In the second set, the Scots and CC exchanged points early. However, the hosts used a 9-1 run to open up a 16-7 advantage over Lyon. Columbia would go on to win the set, 25-11.
The Scots showed resolve in the third set as they tried to cut into CC’s lead. However, the No. 3-seeded Cougars proved to be too much tonight for the No. 6-seeded Scots as CC won the third set, 25-15, and set, 3-0.
Kendra Davidson notched all of Lyon’s assists in the match.
Paeton Tucker tallied a team-high 14 digs and 4 kills in the contest.
Columbia bested the Scots in kills, 45-16.
