O’FALLON, Mo. — The Lyon College Scots’ season came to an end on Thursday afternoon at the American Midwest Conference tournament at CarShield Field in O’Fallon, Missouri.
As one of the final four teams in the tournament on Thursday, the Scots (20-25) lost to the Mustangs, 10-3.
Lyon College opened the game with a solo homer from Logan Lightner, and Austin Shipman doubled to center field, but CBC came back to score two runs in the top of the second inning to take the lead.
Lane McLevain singled to left field in the bottom of the third inning to plate pinch-runner Pierce Corbo, who was running for Shipman after his base hit, to tie the game 2-2. Jayden Cull reached on a catcher’s interference play just before McLevain’s single. Garrett Graef was hit by a pitch later in the inning to load the bases with two outs, but a strike out ended the threat.
CBC took the lead by one in the top of the fifth inning, but Lightner doubled to right field in the bottom of the sixth inning to score Kyle Carver and tie the game at 3-3. Carver had led off with a single to left field and moved around when Brayden Anderson hit a sacrifice grounder to set up Lightner’s double. Bradley McLemore was hit by a pitch, but was left stranded on the bases.
The Mustangs scored six times in the top of the seventh inning and added another in the top of the eighth. Lyon College tried to mount a scoring threat again in the bottom half of the eighth when Graham doubled to right field and McLemore singled up the middle with two outs. Neither scored.
Zane Wallace got a single in the bottom of the ninth and with two outs Jesse McGonigal walked, but a strike out ended the game.
