The Lyon College men’s and women’s cross country teams both opened their seasons strong as both squads earned a fifth-place finish at the Bob Gravett Invitational on Saturday. The women’s team also finished ahead of NCAA Division I Grambling State.
Clare Wilber recorded the fastest time of the day for the Scots’ women’s team as she cruised around the 5K course with a time of 20:26.2 and a 15th-place finish. Haeley Pines also recorded a top-20 finish individually, as her time of 20:55.7 was good enough for 19th place. Alexis Herman was the next competitor to cross the finish line for the Scots with a time of 21:48.3. Herman was followed by Alexis Boyd (22:34.4) and Chloe Sharp (23:01.4). Daisy Connor (23:43.2), Amber Mcclurg (26:53.9) and Mia Winters (27:46.7) also posted quality times for the Scots in their first race of the year.
On the men’s side, Blazek Skucius posted the best time for the Scots in the 8K race at 28:50.3. Zach Smith and Avery Aquino finished not far behind Skucius at 29:23.2 and 30:01.0, respectively. Henry Mulder was the next Scot to cross the finish line at 30:44.7, followed by Michael Starks (31:35.9) and Mark Brill (31:52.1).
The Scots will return to action next Friday at the Harding Invitational.
