CONWAY — The Lyon College Scots softball team dropped an American Midwest Conference double-header in Conway to the Central Baptist College Mustangs on Monday.
The Scots (16-21, 3-13) lost the first game to the Mustangs 11-2 in five innings and lost the second game 7-2.
In the first game, CBC led 5-0 before Lyon scored twice in the top of the third inning. Anna Voth reached on a fielder’s choice that allowed Fallon Lancaster to score on a throwing error on the play. After that, Sophie Varela doubled in Emily Martinez and nearly Whitney Mitchell, but Mitchell was thrown out at the plate.
The Scots had four hits in the game. One came from Varela, one by Voth and two from Lancaster. MK Duffield walked, McKenzie Campbell walked and Martinez walked twice. Lyon College left six runners on base.
In the second game, the Scots trailed again 5-0 until the top of the fourth inning when Duffield hit a solo homer to right center field. Lyon College scored again in the top of the fifth inning when Voth reached on an error that scored Savnnah Lee to make it a 7-2 game.
Duffield had two hits, Mitchell had one hit, Campbell had one hit and Martinez had a hit. The Scots left nine runners on base and struck out 12 times.
