OKLAHOMA CITY — The Lyon College football team was picked to finish sixth in the Sooner Athletic Conference this season as the conference announced its Preseason Coaches’ Poll.
The Scots are coming off a record-setting season in 2019 as the Scots finished 7-3 overall and 6-2 in the SAC. Both win totals are the most in program history.
The Scots return four All-SAC selections from the 2019 season. Junior quarterback Isaiah Bradford was named as a Second-Team All-SAC performer. Juniors Jason Vakasiuola and Moise Occulis earned Second-Team All-SAC honors as offensive linemen. Senior kicker/punter Ignacio Gomez earned Second-Team All-SAC honors as well.
Lyon was also ranked at No. 28 in the College Football America Yearbook NAAI Preseason Top-30 Poll on July 14.
Ottawa-Arizona is the favorite to win the conference this season, followed by Langston, Arizona Christian, Southwestern Assemblies of God and Wayland Baptist. Texas Wesleyan came in seventh in the poll, while Panhandle State came in eighth.
The Scots will open up their season on Feb. 27 at Wayland Baptist under the direction of new Head Coach Chris Douglas.
