The Batesville Lady Pioneers are No. 6 in the Overall rankings this week in the Arkansas Sports Media Girls High School Poll, slipping from fifth last week.

Batesville is also one of four area teams that are ranked No. 1 in their respective classifications.

The top four overall teams are the same this week as Fort Smith Northside got nine of the 17 first-place votes to remain at No. 1. But only four points separate the top three teams. Bentonville remained second and Conway is still third. Nettleton remains at No. 4.

Cabot switched places with Batesville at No. 5 this week while Fayetteville remains seventh. Little Rock Christian moved up two to No. 8, Vilonia stayed at No. 9 and Harrison remains 10th.

The entire Class 6A Top 5 remained the same as Northside got eight first-place votes to stay at No.1 and is followed by Bentonville, Conway, Cabot and Fayetteville.

Nettleton got 14 first-place votes to remain first in Class 5A. Little Rock Christian moved up a spot to No. 2, Vilonia moved up two to No. 3, Greenwood dropped two to No. 4 and West Memphtis debuts at No. 5.

Batesville got all but one first-pace vote to remain No. 1 in Class 4A. Harrison, which got the other first-place vote, is second again. In fact the whole Class 4A Top 5 is the same this week as Star City is third, Farmington fourth and Pulaski Academy fifth.

Mountain View is the second of the area teams with a No. 1 ranking as the Lady Yellowjackets got 16 first-place votes to remain atop the Class 3A Top 5. Central Arkansas Christian moved up a notch to No. 2 while Charleston, which got the other first-place vote, debuts at No. 3. Hoxie dbuted at No. 4 while Valley Springs, despite two losses last week, dropped three spots to No. 5.

Melbourne is the third area team with a No. 1 ranking as the Lady Bearkatz got 16 first-place votes to hang onto the top ranking in Class 2A. Quitman got the other first-place vote to remain second and Bigelow stayed at No. 3. Marmaduke, which lost to Melbourne last week but bounced back to defeat Viola for the Kell Classic championship, remained at No. 4 while Riverside stayed at No. 5.

Despite the loss at the Kell Classic, Viola remains No. 1 in Class 1A with 12 first-place votes. Kirby to two first-place votes to stay third and Mount Vernon-Enola got three first-place votes and broke its tie for third with Concord which is fourth this week. Emerson is fifth.

On the boys' side, the top seven teams remain the same in the Overall Top 10. Rogers leads the way with 13 first-place votes to stay No. 1 and is followed by North Little Rock, West Memphis, Conway, Fort Smith Northside, Springdale Har-Ber and still undefeated Magnolia. Greene County Tech debuts at No. 8, Blytheville debuts at No. 9 and Russellville drops two spots to No. 10.

The Class 6A Top 5 remains the same as Rogers is still No. 1, followed by North Little Rock, Conway, Northside and Har-Ber.

West Memphis remained first in the Class 5A Top 5 while Greene County Tech moved up to No. 2 and Russellville dropped one to No. 3. Maumelle and Vilonia remain fourth and fifth.

Magnolia ranks No. 1 in Class 4A while Blytheville moved up a notch to No. 2 and Little Rock Mills drops one to No. 3. Morrilton is fourth and Valley View is fifth.

Valley Springs remains atop the Class 3A Top 5 while Dumas is second, Bergman is third, Elkins is fourth and Waldron debuts at No. 5.

England keeps its spot on top of the Class 2A rankings, followed by Marianna, Lavaca, Quitman and Marked Tree.

The fourth area team ranked No. 1 is Izard County which is still on top of the Class 1A Top 5. Kribyer is second followed by Nevada, the New School and Hillcrest.
