Melbourne Bearkatz

Kaylee Love hits a ball up the middle for the Melbourne Lady Bearkatz. The Lady Katz fell to the Tuckerman Lady Bulldogs in the district tournament final 3-1.

On Saturday, May 1, the Bearkatz baseball and softball teams faced the Tuckerman Bulldogs in the 2A-2 District Tournament finals at Tuckerman. The Lady Bearkatz fell short to the Bulldogs by a score of 3-1.

The Bearkatz Varsity Baseball team coasted to a blow-out victory of 12-4 over the Bulldogs to clinch the District Tournament Champions title.

This was the third meeting of these two teams over the season. They split the regular season meetings each won by one run each game.

The Katz pulled away for good when they put up five runs in the fourth inning and added five more runs in the fifth inning.

They racked up 11 hits on the day. Ty Miller, Trey Wren, and Logan Seay all managed multiple hits for the Bearkatz. Miller led the Katz with three hits in four at bats.

Rhett Morrison was the winning pitcher for the Bearkatz, he lasted five innings allowing two hits and three runs while striking out four. Morgan Edwards threw two innings in relief out of the bullpen.

The Regional Tournament starts this week at Tuckerman, the Lady Bearkatz will face Southside Bee Branch on Thursday, May 6 at 12:30 and the Bearkatz will face Conway St. Joseph on Thursday at 3 PM.
