The Cave City Cavemen will look to halt a three game losing streak tonight. The Cavemen (1-4, 0-2) will host the Westside Warriors (2-4, 1-2) in a 4A-3 conference matchup.

In their last game the Cavemen fell to the Pocahontas Redskins 35-20. The Warriors fell 55-19 to Rivercrest last Friday night.

Head coach Danny Brustrom said the team had some very good practices this week. “We feel pretty good about our offense,” Brustrom added.

The offensive game plan for the Cavemen will be to run the ball strong. Sweeps and power runs are some of the running plans for the Cavemen.

The Cavemen will need to cut out penalties this week. Brustrom said we have “just got to cut out the holding calls. We had several last Friday night that really cost us.”

The Warriors are a Power-I team, to combat that, Brustom’s plan on how to counter that is to “run a lot of base defense and change our front look during the game.”

The Cavemen and Warriors will kick off at seven at Caveman Field.

The Melbourne Bearkatz will be back in action this Friday night after a bye week last Friday. The Bearkatz will travel to Searcy to take on the Riverview Raiders in a 3A-2 conference matchup. For this upcoming game, head coach Kevin McCarn said the “kids are glad to be preparing for an opponent this week.”

The last game the Katz (4-1 overall, 1-1 in conference) played they picked up a win at home against the Salem Greyhounds, 41-22. Last Friday the Raiders (0-5 overall, 0-2 in conference) fell to the Earle Bulldogs 30-24 in a non-conference game.

For the Bearkatz, it will be important to have better offensive play and to limit penalties, according to McCarn.

It will also be important for the linemen to have a good game because

Riverview “attack[s] by slanting and blitzing,” McCarn said.

Defensively the Katz “need to quit giving up explosive plays,” McCarn said. “Riverview’s quarterback has a good arm, and they have a couple of good receivers.” Containing them will help prevent those explosive plays.

Kickoff for the Bearkatz and Raiders is scheduled for seven Friday night at Raider Stadium.
