Amiable Gerald Ford, rejected in 1976, is now director of seven large corporations in which the annual fees run around $20,000 each. In addition, he is a consultant to two companies, which brings in around $150,000 a year.
Arkansas Congressman Bill Alexander was among the approximately 100 friends and relatives who attended the 15th annual Jeffrey-Alexander reunion held Sunday at the Jamestown Community Center.
Family members representing 23 Arkansas towns, plus Oklahoma, Kansas and Texas, were present at the business meeting and potluck dinner.
The oldest family member present was 84, and the youngest was 10 months old.
The Henderson family reunion and potluck luncheon was held Saturday at Riverside Park.
About 41 family members and friends were present. Out-of-state family members included Mr. and Mrs. Pete Henderson and daughter Jennifer of Harbor, Mich.
Carson Henderson, senior member of the family at age 83, has four children, 12 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Obituaries in the paper today are Leanor Gilbert, Nora L. Wesley and Alvis H. Wilson.
The Sharp County Republican Central Committee re-elected Floyd Mitchell of Poughkeepsie as county GOP chairman during the county convention Monday by a 22-16 vote.
At the beginning of the meeting, Garland Mobley of Cave City was selected as temporary chairman until the voting for the chairman’s position was completed.
Mitchell’s wife, Opal, was re-elected committee secretary by an identical vote.
In a photo in today’s paper, Ralph Cross watches as a youngster strokes the ball toward the hole on the ninth green at Batesville Municipal Golf Course. Cross donated his services to the Batesville Parks Department for a free golf clinic for youngsters last week at the golf course.
Batesville’s American Restaurant team won an adult softball tournament in Searcy during the weekend, according to Manager Skip Carpenter.
Carpenter said the team lost its first game and then won seven in a row in the loser’s bracket to win the championship.
American Restaurant defeated Shelter Insurance of Cave City twice, 5-1 and 5-2, in the final games to take first place.

Mr. and Mrs. James W. Smith of Poughkeepsie will celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary July 4 with a reception given by their children at the First Free Will Baptist Church on Matlock Road in Cave City from 2-4 p.m.
Mr. Smith is the son of the late Everett L. and Lamell Smith of Poughkeepsie, and Mrs. Smith is the former Marie DeFoe, daughter of the late Edney L. DeFoe of Noblesville, Ind.
They were married July 4, 1957, in Noblesville.
Their children are: Charline Dell and Rex A. Smith, both of Noblesville, Anna Grace King of Cave City and Lawanda Mobley of Poughkeepsie. They have five grandchildren.
Mr. and Mrs. Herman Dover of Melbourne will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary Sunday from 2-4 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Melbourne.
They were married June 17, 1932, in Melbourne by Mose Cooper. They have one daughter, Mrs. Jim Lytle, and a granddaughter, Jennifer Watson of Batesville.
Mrs. Dover is the former Velma Jennings of Sage.
Obituaries in the paper today are Henry Allen Babcock and Mary C. Bangs.
Debra Doherty, a nursing student at Gateway Vocational-Technical School, won first place in competition recently during a Student Practical Association of Nursing Students convention in Little Rock.
Mrs. Doherty, 26, received first place in isolation technique. Her competition included contestants from each of the state’s 22 vocational-technical schools.
Donna Magar was awarded a silver platter after being voted Bowler of the Year for 1981-82 by her fellow bowlers. Magar bowled in three different leagues last year at Rush Lanes.
