With this week slated as the normal week of every month for government meetings, the City of Batesville will be the only local body that will hold its scheduled meeting in Independence County.

In that meeting, the Batesville Fire Department will be presented with a 2020 Community Safety Grant from CenterPoint Energy during the Batesville City Council meeting at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 15, at the Batesville Community Center.0

Independence County and the City of Southside have both announced that neither will have their regular monthly meetings in September.

Independence County Judge Robert Griffin announced earlier in the week that Monday’s Quorum Court meeting would not take place moving a light agenda into the October meeting.

Griffin also said COVID-19 concerns played a part in the decision as well. Quorum Court has been meeting at the Independence County library in recent months in order to practice social distancing.

Southside Mayor Ray Bowman made a similar announcement on Saturday.

In an email, Bowman stated, “the City of Southside will not have a meeting during the month of September. We will meet on Monday October 12, 2020.”
