Independence County Sheriff Shawn Stephens told the Batesville Guard that the city of Newark’s stolen truck had been recovered.

It was reported on Thursday morning that the gate to the Newark city yard located at 150 W. Front St., was laying on the ground when an employee arrived. The city’s 1999 Dodge Ram 2500 pickup had been stolen.

Stephens said he received a call from a resident and located the stolen city vehicle on Black Land Road where it was stuck in a field.

Stephens said no one was in custody for the theft as of around noon on Monday.
