Batesville Fire Department Chief Brent Gleghorn announced Monday he is entering the race for Independence County Judge on the Republican ticket.

“Obviously this is one of the biggest decisions in my life. A decision I do not take lightly,” Gleghorn said.

A lifelong resident of Independence County, Gleghorn has served the county for 44 years as a first responder and firefighter.

“I believe it is time for me to further my service to the county by entering this race,” Gleghorn said.

“Independence County has been good to myself and to my family. I look forward to potentially having the opportunity to work closely with any and all elected officials for the betterment of the county as a whole,” Gleghorn said in a statement.

He added he will focus on funding, countywide emergency response, and making sure the roads are in good condition
