A body was discovered by hunters at the entrance of the Jamestown Wildlife Management Area in Independence County at 6:50 a.m. on the morning of Dec. 28, according to Independence County Sheriff Shawn Stephens.

"Details are scarce," Stephens stated. "But the body is that of a female."

The body will be sent to the Arkansas State Crime Lab in Little Rock to determine the cause of death.

"No other information is available at this time, and when more information is available for release it will be released," was posted on the Independence County Sheriff's Department Facebook page Saturday afternoon.

An Independence County woman was killed Saturday in a one-vehicle crash in the Batesville area, according to a preliminary fatal crash summary from the Arkansas State Police.

April D. Bauman, 47, of Batesville was going east in a 2007 Dodge Caliber on Pfeiffer Road around 12:45 p.m. Dec. 28 when the crash happened.

Authorities said in the report that the vehicle failed to negotiate a curve, lost control and struck a tree.

The weather was rainy and the roads were wet at the time of the crash, the report noted.

When I read about a body found near the wildlife area I was afraid it was the lady that went missing when her car was found by the White River bridge between Oil Trough and Newark. Hopefully the lady is still alive.
