Homicide investigation

Saturday evening the Sharp County Sheriff’s Office responded to shots fired at 180 Grange Road. Upon arrive officers with the Sharp County Sheriff’s Department, Cave City Police Department, and Spring River Ambulance arrived and found Kelsey Bunch, 32, and Jonathan Bunch, 34, deceased. The case is being investigated by the Sharp County Sheriff’s Office as a homicide and suicide. Both bodies were sent to the Arkansas State Crime Lab.

Election commission meeting

The Election Commission will meet at 9 a.m. Nov. 30, at the election office located in the old library on Main St. The meeting will be to discuss redistricting and an upcoming Batesville School District Special Election. Meetings are open to the public.

Museum meeting

The Old Independence Regional Museum will convene its Annual Meeting and program at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 5 at the museum. Author, professor, and noted regional historian Dr. Brooks Blevins will introduce his newly printed and much anticipated third installment of his Ozark history trilogy. “The History of the Ozarks, Volume 3: The Ozarkers” offers an authoritative appraisal of the modern Ozarks and its people.” Blevins tells the cultural history of the Ozark people and proposes that poverty and geographic barriers were the true inhibitors to advancement in the region rather than a lack of progressive spirit. The author explores the idea that the small minority of people who held fast to the old ways disproportionately influenced the stereotype of Ozarkers being throwbacks who were resistant to change.
