On Tuesday morning, Cave City Police notified the Independence County Sheriff’s Department of a chase involving a motorcycle that was heading into Batesville.

Sheriff Shawn Stephens said he was was on U.S. Highway 167 just north of and went to assist.

Stephens came in contact with both the motorcycle and Cave City police at Spring Valley.

According to a release from Stephens, the pursuit continued south towards Batesville and included several officers from the Independence County Sheriff’s Office and Batesville Police Department attempted to get the motorcycle to stop without success.

Stephens said the motorcycle continued through Batesville and south of the river bridge.

Stephens’ release stated that the operator of the motorcycle, later identified as Guyton Winningham, went up Ramsey Mountain and attempted to turn on to Triangle Lane. At that point, Stephens said Winningham sideswiped a Jeep and “lost control coming to rest in the parking lot of Triangle Cafe.”

Winningham was taken into custody and EMS was notified at that point. The operator of the Jeep stated he was not injured and was not requesting medical attention.

Stephens said he then requested the Arkansas State Police to respond to work the accident.

Winningham was transported to the hospital for treatment of injuries sustained in the accident.
