An early morning crash involving a Batesville School District bus is under investigation by Arkansas State Police.

Independence County Sheriff Shawn Stephens confirmed the accident "north of town" early Friday morning.

Batesville Superintendent Dr. Micheal Hester said one of the district's buses was rear-ended by van as they were headed to Cave City, but no students were involved.

"Our bus had stopped and was halfway through the left turn when the van rear ended us," Hester said.

While Friday was slated as a virtual day for the district, Hester said some buses do run "for any students who need to be onsite and serve meals."

Arkansas State Police has not released any details regarding the crash or the condition of an any occupants in the van.
