The Batesville Lady Pioneers did something Monday night that only one other team has done so far this volleyball season and that is taking a set off the undefeated Jonesboro Lady Hurricane..

But as far as the match went, Jonesboro just had too much power on offense and defeated Batesville 3-1 in a nonconference matchup at Pioneer Gym.

Jonesboro improved to 20-0 on the season with the 25-21, 20-25, 25-17, 25-10 victory. Batesville fell to 13-9.

Jonesboro had not dropped a set through its first 16 matches of the season until facing Valley View in the championship match of the Ron and Pat Carmack Volleyball Play Day back on September 28. The Lady Hurricane took the first set before the Lady Blazers took the second set before Jonesboro won the third to take the title. Ironically, Batesville is the only team, besides Jonesboro, to take two sets off Valley View.

Batesville took an early 6-2 lead to start the first set, getting two kills by McKenzie Worley, one from Jalise Stewart and an ace by Halle Schroeder. Jonesboro then went on a 10-2 run for a 12-8 advantage.

The Lady Hurricane led 16-12 when Batesville went on a 4-0 run with another ace by Schroeder knotting the score at 16-16. The Lady Pioneers then edged ahead 18-17 on a kill by Stewart. The score was tied 21-21 when Jonesboro scored the game's final four points, three of those off Batesville errors.

Jonesboro led 5-2 early in the second set before Batesville rallied to take a 7-5 lead o two aces by Schroeder and two kills by Stewart. The Lady Hurricane rebounded to take an 8-7 edge but as it turned it, that was their last lead of the game. The score was tied two more times at 8-8 and 9-9 when the Lady Pioneers went on a 7-2 run, getting two kills each from Stewart and Kayla Ward, to take a 16-11 lead. Jonesboro cut the gap to three twice and down to 21-10 before Batesville finished the game with a 4-1 run, the game winner coming on a kill by Ward.

Jonesboro led by four early in the third set before Batesville caught up at 8-8. The Lady Hurrican led 16-14 when they began to pull away from the Lady Pioneers, going on an 8-1 run for a 24-15 lead before Batesville scored two points then put the game away on a kill.

In the fourth set, Batesville scored the first point and was still close in trailing 7-5 when the game just got away from them. Jonesbor went on a 6-0 run for a 13-5 lead and it was 15-8 when the Lady Hurrican finished the game with a 10-2 run, scoring the last six points.

Stewart led Batesville attack with 19 kills while Ward finished with 10,, Schroeder had six and Worley had four. Stewart had four blocks and Worley had three. Schroeder served all five of Batesville's aces. Isabella Floyd dished out 34 assists to go with eight digs. Ashton Weaver had six digs.
