Poetry "About Me"

I smile from inside and sometimes i weep
My emtions are hidden So i don't appear weak
My body although small I'm really quiet strong
From all the trials and errors of Just trying get along
I don't judge people For it's not my place
I don't ask for much but prefer talking face to face
No one is wrong as long as they are real
And a Fake person With them I don't deal
Memories are great Regret frustrates
Predicament can spoon feed your every thought
You have to be wise let It be known
that you can not be bought
A good friend is like a secret
It's something to be kept inside
It doesn't come with lies and doubt
But with truth and pride
If you have one comrade That you know is there
You have more than most For that you can't compare
If you think your life has been a bad curse
Just look around you There is always someone worse
This life here on earth Is what you make it to be
Just remember to never Leap before you look
And a fish has to bite
Before you can get him on your hook

Stupid is stupid

WHAT WAS BATESVILLE CUT OF THE MEXICAN DRUG TRADE

SO THAT'S HOW COME TOWNSENDS WAS BRINGING THEM IN HERE
Zoie Clift, travel writer
Arkansas Department of Parks and Tourism

A new museum scheduled to open this month in Hot Springs will reveal a slice of history that up until now has mostly been stuff of legend. The Gangster Museum of America will focus on the 1920s-40s era of the town, when gangsters such as Al Capone and Lucky Luciano vacationed there.

According to Robert Raines, director of the museum, there are no other gangster museums in America. "Las Vegas will have a museum slated to open in 2012 that will begin, time-wise, where we leave off," he said. "We are in contact with their designers and plan a lot of cross-promotion. Unlike other museums, our artifacts are all indigenous to the area, and we are located on the very street where all of our history took place. That's why we're on Central Avenue, because this is where it all happened."

The idea for the museum came about when Raines was helping a friend move into a business on the infamous street. "I fell in love with the "New York feel" of the downtown area and was fascinated by its history," said Raines. "Then came the last season of The Sopranos, and I guess I wasn't ready for the series to end, so I created my own, and called it the "The Gangster Museum of America." Believe it or not, just at the right time in my life, doors began to open that revealed Hot Springs' legacy as a gangster/mob "hangout."

According to Raines, the endeavor is a new kind of museum that the industry refers to as "edu-entertainment." "It will be Arkansas's newest attraction and located in a very pleasant section of Central Ave. on Antique Row," he said. "We will also be one, if not the only, downtown attraction open at night."

Since news of the museum first hit the underground grapevine, Raines said there has been ongoing interest in the endeavor from around the country.

The museum will highlight the stories of many notorious gangsters such as Lucky Luciano. Luciano was an Italian-American gangster who, according to the FBI, "organized" organized crime in the U.S. In many ways, he was the inspiration for the character Don Corleone in The Godfather. He evaded arrest and survived attempted assassinations only to meet his downfall while vacationing in Hot Springs in 1936.

The city was well known as neutral territory for gangsters from Chicago and New York who visited the town to enjoy the baths and racing. In Chicago, Detroit, New York - when the FBI and police were after criminals because of a robbery or murder - gangsters knew where to go to find a safe haven. Hot Springs was a sanctuary from both prosecution and enemies. When visiting, Al Capone and members of his mob frequently occupied the entire fourth floor of the Arlington Hotel. During one stay, as the popular story goes, Capone's archenemy (Bugs Moran and his gang) checked in to the Majestic Hotel, just one block away. Contrary to what one would expect, there was neither conflict nor violence since both were on vacation.

The museum's galleries are set to host photographic displays, audiovisual presentations and artifacts (such as weapons) related to this era when the healing powers of the city's hot mineral baths attracted visitors from around the world. During this period, the city was a popular destination for the rich and famous, drawing the likes of Babe Ruth and Andrew Carnegie. According to Raines, the museum will tell the story of a political dynasty and its ultimate upset. Visitors will get an inside look at the lives of Owen Vincent Madden, the kingpin of crime in Hot Springs, as well as Capone, Luciano, Frank Costello, Bumpy Johnson, Maxine Harris and many others.

It is Raines' hope that the museum's stockpile of intriguing stories associated with the city will not only enhance visitors' appreciation of the area's history, but also create a unique "wow" experience unlike any other. So what is the most misunderstood aspect of the city's mysterious "gangster" era? "That will be up to each guest to determine," said Raines. "I can only say that if I told ya, I might have to kill ya!"

Collection of items for Company B 139th Infantry Brigade

I received an e-mail requesting support for our soldiers from Company B 139th Infantry Brigade.  There are approximately 130 members who are in this unit. They are requesting donations of Caramex, chap sticks, anything for entertainment (specifically board games, card games, crosswords, magazines), envelopes, stationary, etc.

There will be a drop box to collect items at the main campus building of UACCB near the cashier's window.  They will box and mail these to the troops.  Monetary donations for postage is also being accepted and can be given to the cashier.

I urge everyone to please support our men and women serving overseas.  Having a brother who has served in the army for over twenty years, who has had tours in Germany, Korea, Kuwait and been sent to Iraq twice, I believe that helping with this collection effort is something everyone should do for our troops.

Science and Technology Museum

Below is an AP article about a science and technology museum being planned in northwest Arkansas. Four cities and one developer have expressed interest in this.

That part of the state is really growing in terms of economic development. While a science museum may not be right for Batesville, it does illustrate what communities need to do to build tourism. With no end in sight to the sky-high gas prices, Batesville needs to find ways not only to bring new people in but also keep residents close by for shopping, dining and other experiences.

Tourism development is crucial to our area's economic development.

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (AP) -- Organizers who want to open a science and technology museum in northwest Arkansas are working to find a site on which they can build the facility.
The Northwest Arkansas Museum Foundation wants to find a parcel and put a strategic plan in place before working to raise money to build the museum. The group is seeking proposals for the 130,000-square-foot interactive museum, which backers hope to open within the next five years.
Foundation director Brent Robinson said representatives of Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art in Bentonville and the cities of Fayetteville, Springdale, Rogers and Bentonville have expressed interest in the museum, as has a local developer.
Robinson said the group hopes to choose a site for the museum by the end of the summer.
Other science museums in the state include the Museum of Discovery in downtown Little Rock and the Mid-America Science Museum in Hot Springs. Both feature hands-on displays that help children learn about the sciences.
Robinson said the general plan for the northwest Arkansas museum would have the site include an IMAX movie theater, a community auditorium, five museum galleries and a center for traveling exhibits. He said the foundation estimates the museum would draw about 150,000 visitors per year.
Robinson said the group has quietly pursued the museum for a reason.
"A normal process could take 10 years, and trying to keep everyone engaged is just daunting," he said. "Once the site is selected, it opens the door to whole new things."
Foundation board members want to develop a brand for the museum, conduct a fundraising feasibility study, recruit an experienced science museum director and develop content for the museum.
The idea for the museum was first brought forth by Fayetteville community leader John Lewis, who died in 2007.
"I think early on people thought John Lewis had too much of a dream," Robinson said. "(Lewis) liked to say, 'If it's a good idea, people will get behind it. "'
Robinson said the museum would be designed in a way the emulates Fayetteville architect Fay Jones. He said the site also should have elements such as a cave, bluff or body of water that could be included as an exhibit.
Proposals are due May 15.

Thrill Of The Race

While other girl's may have been helping their mother cook
No doubt i was either hunting, fishing or with my grandpaw getting the need for speed
Back in the day <<---(That's another way of saying "when I was young")
Back in the day my grandpaw was sheriff of a small town for a long time
Back then my granny cooked for the inmates, my grandpaw and I would
take the food to them.. This was sometimes too tempting for some
When that big concrete door opened, there stood one very large man and me
Although my grandpaw was a very large man..
Well i guess they figured if they got out of arms length they could out run him
So they would run and the "CHASE WAS ON"  .. when we got tired of chasing him on foot, we got in the old malibu!  Me with thorns in my feet from the foot race earlier and my grandmaw putting some thorn's in my grandpaw's ears..As We raced through town looking for the runaway, while my grandmaw steady hollering "GET THAT GIRL HOME" on the radio
I will never forget the feeling i got from going fast.. "A Thrill"
It's like he knew that i was having the time of my life..
My grandpaw made me work very hard to pay for my first car.
I tried to get him to leave the spot light on it :) "My own muscle car"
He said he didn't want me putting anyone's eyes out with the spot light and removed it
I still get a thrill thinking about "Back In The Day"

Agree Or Disagree

Did you know ???
Did you know that when you envy someone,
it's because you really like that person?
Did you know that those who appear to be very strong in heart, are
real weak and most susceptible?
Did you know that those who spend their time protecting others are the
ones that really need some one to protect them?
Did you know that the four most difficult things to say are I love
you, Sorry ,why? and help me
The people who say these are actually in need of them or really feel
them, and are the ones you really need to treasure, because they have
said them and so should you!
Did you know that people who occupy themselves by keeping others
company or helping others are the ones that actually need help
But won't take most help offered to them
Did you know that those who dress in red
feel more confident in themselves because of red
Did you know that those who dress in yellow are those that enjoy their
beauty and look at theirself quit often
Did you know that those who dress in black, are those who want to be
unnoticed, like time alone and stay in tune with reality and
their inner-self..They trust Their inner-self
because thats where they get the most help
And  yes.. sadly enough thats where they go for understanding
Did you know that those who need more of you
are those that don't mention it to you?
Did you know that it's easier to say what you feel in writing than
saying it to someone in the face?
But did you know that it has more value when you say it to their face?
