Attention: This is not a "blame thing" for what's happening to Social Security-----Just a history / civic studies reminder of the facts about lost annuities. These details are EASY TO CHECK OUT.

Your Social Security:

The Great Democrat President Franklin D. Roosevelt started social security in the 1935-1937 timeframe after the Great Depression was slowing down, thanks to Roosevelt's W.P.A. and C.C.C. Programs, and The U.S.A.'s anticipation of WWWII---industrial build up.President Roosevelt promised:

1. Participation in the program would be voluntary,
2. Participants would only have to pay 1% of the first $1400.00 of their annual earnings into the program,
3. The money participants put into the program would be tax deductible every year,
4. The participants money would go into a TRUST FUND, not a GENERAL OPERATING FUND for Congress to spend,
5. The annuities paid to retirees would NEVER BE TAXED as income.

Many of you, and I, paid the maximum into the fund for years, retired and are now drawing social security annuities, SO, YOU SHOULD BE REMINDED OF THE FOLLOWING DETAILS -

A.  Lyndon Johnson and the Democratic controlled Senate and House took the "Trust Fund" and put it into the general operating fund for Congress to spend on his Great Society.
B. The Democrats also eliminated the income tax deduction for FICA, (Social Security), paid into the program, therby increasing taxes.
C.  Vice-President Al Gore cast the tie-breaking vote, when he was President of the Senate, to start taxing your Social Security payments.
D.  President Jimmy Carter and his Democratic controlled House and Senate made it legal to pay Social Security annuity payments to immigrants at age 65.

The Democrats now tell you that the Republicans want to take your Social Security away!!!! Most all of us would never vote for anyone who wanted to take away social security, but, the system should be corrected without a high risk of funds transferred to Wall Street.

Let's all push for maintenance/repair of the Social Security Program, not the destruction thereof, and, simultaneously, help the immigrants as passionate humanity should. People who work hard and pay into a fund should reap the benefits of the fund before others use it, legally or illegally. Write your congressmen and all the politicians you know and state your position.

Those details are indeed easy to check out. They are also incorrect, for the most part. An article at the urban legends website Snopes.com investigates the claims in detail. Here is the link: http://www.snopes.com/politics/taxes/sschanges.asp

This same list has been circulated for quite some time via email. While the current poster would have us believe it is not a "blame thing," it is clear to me that it is little more than a screed against Democrats.
