NEWARK -- One man is dead following an early morning shooting Monday morning in Newark, according to Independence County Sheriff Shawn Stephens.
In a news release issued late Monday afternoon, Stephens said that his deputies responded to a residence on North Locust Street around 7:20 a.m. regarding a possible shooting.
"They found a 27-year-old male lying in the floor who was pronounced dead at the scene," Stephens said.
Deputies also arrested a 33-year-old.
Two witnesses to the event were interviewed by investigators, according to Stephens, who went on to say that officers continued to interview the suspect throughout the afternoon.
"Following the investigation, the case will be turned over to the prosecutor's office," Stephens said.
At press time, the type of relationship the two men might have had, or what might be a possible motive in the shooting, was unknown.
The incident remains under investigation and more details are expected to be released later.
