Library to host movie night for students

The Independence County Library is hosting a Movie Night and Pizza Party for area middle school students at 6-8 p.m. Friday.

The movie is "The House with a Clock in its Walls," which is based on a popular children's book, and is rated PG.

Students will enjoy pizza, popcorn, and movie candy while watching the movie.

The event is free and open to all middle school students ages 8 to 12. Parents are also welcome to attend the event. Seating is limited, and reservations may be made by calling the library at 870-793-8814.

Brother's Keeper announces fundraiser

PLEASANT PLAINS -- Brother's Keeper will host an auction, chili lunch (donation only), 50/50 raffle to raise money to help fund this year's Recovery Roundup. The event will be from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Assembly of God Church in Pleasant Plains. The auction will be at 12:30.

Dennis Markum, founder of Brother's Keeper, says Brother's Keeper is a local outreach program that helps recovered ("delivered," as he calls them) addicts find jobs and obtain clothing.

Anyone with items to donate may contact Markum or Larron McDaniel to make arrangements for pickup or delivery (no clothing or large items).

UACCB to offer CDL training with school bus endorsement

The University of Arkansas Community College at Batesville's Community and Technical Education department is offering Class B CDL training with school bus endorsement Feb. 26, 28, and March 5 from 5-9 p.m. and March 9 from 8 a.m.-5 p.m.

This 20-hour course covers the general knowledge portion of the CDL exam, as well as the school bus, passenger and air brakes endorsements. The course is divided into classroom preparation for the Department of Transportation written exam and hands-on experience and training in pre-trip inspection, obstacle course training and over the road scenarios. A Class B license will enable you to drive any single-vehicle (including dump trucks) that is greater than 26,000 pounds.

The course fee is $150. The classes will be held in the UACCB Row Johns Building, room 816. For more information or to register, email or call 870-612-2082.
