Storm knocks out power

A severe storm front that moved through northcentral Arkansas around 3 this morning pounded the area with rain, lightning and high winds that knocked out power in the Batesville and Melbourne areas.

Entergy spokesman Les Frensley said this morning that several people lost power in Izard County when lightning struck a substation in Melbourne.

“Two circuits at the substation were knocked out and that put about 2,000 people out of power,” Frensley said. “We have one circuit back on and should have the second one on by day’s end.”
