Members of the Newark Interlocal Law Enforcement Committee met Wednesday afternoon to discuss police coverage of the city while an officer, David Sallas, is in the police academy beginning in January.
Newark Mayor Randy Hendrix also raised the question of allowing the Independence County deputies on duty during the day to spend part of that time acting as a school resource officer.
He said the city has gotten federal stimulus money to help supplement the position but it is not sufficient to pay a full-time resource officer.
