Have mercy — Jr. Pioneers dominate ’Pups again

What was billed as a potential nail-biter turned into another blowout Tuesday night in Pioneer Stadium.

The Batesville Junior Pioneers picked up where they left off last season and collected a 41-6 victory over the Newport Greypups in a nonconference, season-opening football game.

“I thought that if we won, it would be real close,” Batesville Coach Doug Walls said.

It is the third straight year the mercy rule has been applied in the White River rivalry. Batesville won last year’s meeting 36-12 and the tilt was 36-0 in 2008.
