An early morning fire that destroyed a Batesville family’s multi-functional garage also damaged the roof of a nearby church, according to fire officials.
Batesville Fire Chief Danny Russell said the garage fire was reported at the Lee Mourer residence at 649 College Ave. around 1:30 a.m. and the building was fully engulfed when firefighters arrived on the scene.
Firefighters were kept busy to keep flames from spreading to the Mourer home and to First Baptist Church located across a narrow driveway some 20 feet away.
