Civil War battle was fought at Lunenburg

The Izard County Historical and Genealogical Society has applied for matching funds from the Arkansas Civil War Sesquicentennial to be used to erect a historical plaque telling about Lunenburg’s involvement in the Civil War.

About that involvement — thereby hangs a tale. And not only a tale, for an unfortunate man was also hanged, although the folks who put the rope around his neck were only trying to scare him into confessing for a misdeed. No one knows whether the man was guilty or not.

But I’m getting ahead of myself.
