‘Paper girl’ enjoys job

Katie Cummins doesn’t stand on a corner with a stack of newspapers, yelling “Extra! Extra! Read all about it!”

However, she does make sure more than 100 subscribers get their daily news and, yes, she has been called the “paper girl.”

Sixteen-year-old Cummins has been the Batesville Daily Guard’s downtown news carrier for more than three months. And, while it’s something usually thought of as a boy’s job, Cummins, like many of the Guard’s female carriers, has broken that stereotype.
