WALNUT RIDGE — Curtis Jackson struck out 11 and allowed just four hits and the Walnut Ridge offense took care of the rest as the Bobcats whipped the Cedar Ridge Timberwolves 12-1 this Class 2A-2 District contest.
The run rule was enforced in the fifth inning.
Andy Crawford, Luke Henderson, Justin Lovell and Cody Weathers were the Cedar Ridge hitters. Crawford scored the lone run.

Cave City vs. Valley Springs Part 5.
They battled for the regular-season championship, the district tournament championship and the region tournament championship, so it’s only fitting that the fifth meeting between the 3A 1-East District members will be for the Class 3A State Tournament championship Friday night in Hot Springs’ Summit Arena.
It’s Cave City’s first trip to the state finals since 1988 when it lost to Lamar. Valley Springs was there last year and suffered a heart-breaking, 41-40 loss to Charleston.

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — Alex Rodriguez’s lawyers are setting up an interview with federal authorities as part of an investigation into a Canadian doctor who is the focus of a cross-border drug smuggling case involving human growth hormone.
The Yankee slugger said from the team’s spring training complex this morning that the interview site is under discussion but he would like it to be in Tampa so his training is not disrupted. He expects to soon know the interview date.

One name is noticeably absent from the list of teams that UConn’s women have trampled en route to the record and beyond:
Tennessee.
That’s not a coincidence. As with just about everything else in women’s hoops, Lady Vols Coach Pat Summitt saw this day coming before the rest of us. Since the Huskies and Coach Geno Auriemma won the first of six national titles in 1995, Tennessee and Summitt, with five over that span, have been their only real rivals.
But all of last season and so far throughout this one, no one has even been close to the Huskies.

The Batesville Pioneers got off to a good start in 5A-East Conference play with another high school soccer shutout Tuesday night at Pioneer Stadium.
The 3-0 victory over the Paragould Rams brought the Pioneers’ record to 2-0 overall and 1-0 in the district. They have not been scored upon in two regular-season games and in three preseason scrimmages. They did lose one of those scrimmage matches in an overtime shootout after a scoreless tie.
Against Paragould, the Pioneers allowed just five shots. Vivien Ramirez, Batesville’s goalie, turned them away.

Three of four area softball games scheduled for Tuesday were postponed and two have been rescheduled.
Midland-at-Walnut Ridge, Cotter-at-Cedar Ridge and Greers Ferry Westside-at-Concord were the casualties. The varsity and junior varsity games at Cedar Ridge (Newark) have been rescheduled for March 19 and the single game at Concord has been added to an originally-scheduled meeting on April 8.
Midland Coach Rick McKinney said the contest at Walnut Ridge will be rescheduled, since it is a 2A-2 District meeting.

MOBILE, Ala. — Josh McNatt put together a solid outing on the mound and the Lyon College Scots collected 11 hits in a 4-3 victory over the University of Mobile Rams on Tuesday in the second game of a 2-game set.
The teams were scheduled for a single game Tuesday and another today, but agreed to make a doubleheader out of it due to the threat of severe weather.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The boys sure backed NASCAR into a corner on this one.
Determined to give drivers more leeway this season when it came to policing each other on the track, NASCAR opened the year with a relaxed “boys, have at it” attitude. It was interpreted to mean NASCAR would look the other way at a nudge here, a spin there, and all the retaliatory bumping and banging that goes on over a very long season.
No one could have predicted, though, that NASCAR’s first true test would come a mere four races into the season following a frightening accident at Atlanta.

HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — The Connecticut Huskies didn’t celebrate after the game. Just another night’s work for Coach Geno Auriemma’s latest dynasty.
After their ho-hum 59-44 win over Notre Dame put them in the championship of the Big East tournament on Monday night, the Huskies just shook hands with the Irish — same as they have after pretty much every other game during their incredible streak.
