MELBOURNE — Izard County deputies were dispatched last week to a home in Oxford regarding a domestic violence complaint involving a father driving a truck into his son’s house and pulling a knife on the son, Sheriff Tate Lawrence said.
According to the son, John R. Aguiar, his father, John W. Aguiar, was released recently from the Veterans Administration Hospital and they had previously argued regarding a family incident that occurred in Fulton County.

WALNUT RIDGE — Bond was set at $100,000 Friday for a man accused of firing a rifle randomly near houses in Lawrence County, sheriff’s Capt. Jody Dotson said.
Officers arrested Louis Hoggard, 69, of the Baltz Addition near Powhatan for unlawful discharge of a firearm from a vehicle and disorderly conduct.
“The arrest came after Hoggard was driving around the Baltz Edition firing a gun from his vehicle randomly near houses on February 28. Residents of the area called 911 and reported the actions and deputies were dispatched to the area,” Dotson said.

The fish are to be picked up at 1 p.m. March 16 in the parking lot of the Ash Flat Livestock Auction.

CONWAY (AP) — An Arkansas Geological Survey geologist says there is no convincing evidence that recent earthquakes in the Greenbrier area are caused by natural gas exploration and drilling.
Several small earthquakes have been recorded, and sometimes felt, in the Greenbrier area during the last few months.
“Right now, the majority of the microtremors that we’ve seen are much deeper than any of the production wells nearby,” AGS geohazards supervisor Scott Ausbrooks said Monday. “At this time, we don’t see a causal relationship between the drilling and the earthquakes.”

Dr. Carin Holroyd will speak at Lyon College as part of the Japanese Lecture Series at 7 p.m. March 18 in Derby Lecture Hall.
Holroyd is an assistant professor of political science at the University of Waterloo in Canada. She is also a senior fellow at the Centre for International Governance Innovation, also in Waterloo. Holroyd is the author of “Government, International Trade, and Laissez-Faire Capitalism” (McGill-Queen’s) and co-author of “Japan and the Internet Revolution” (Palgrave Macmillan) and “Innovation Nation: Science and Technology in 21st Century Japan.”

A “meet the candidates” forum will be hosted by the Independence County Republican Women’s Club Thursday at Western Sizzlin in Batesville. The event is open to the public.
Speakers will be Randy Alexander of Fayetteville, Curtis Coleman of Little Rock, Fred Ramey of Searcy and Col. Conrad Reynolds of Conway, who are all candidates for the U.S. Senate in the Republican primary.
The program will begin at noon in the restaurant’s large meeting room. A Dutch-treat luncheon will be available at 11 a.m. or after the program concludes.

Melbourne — The Ozarka College Foundation board will sponsor its annual Spring Gala at 6:30 p.m. April 1. “Snapshot of a New Decade” will include dinner prepared by the culinary arts department to be served in the Ozarka College John E. Miller lobby. Along with dinner, there will be an auction and musical entertainment.
