Fifteen arrests, a majority of them for drunkenness, were made by county and city officials over the weekend. Chief of Police Bernard Hinkle nabbed seven drunks Saturday while Sheriff Jake Engles and his deputy, George M. Evans, arrested the others at three roadhouses, one which is six miles south of the city and two which are north of town.

The House impelled the soldiers' bonus toward payment today by overriding the veto of President Roosevelt.
More than 100 are expected to attend the Batesville Chamber of Commerce annual banquet in the Barnett Hotel at 7 this evening. Henry H. Tucker of Little Rock, retiring president of the Little Rock Chamber of Commerce, will be the principal speaker. The entire Kiwanis Club will break bread with the chamber members and other civic-minded citizens, Music will be provided by the Little Jew and His Orchestra.

If the veterans bonus bill now pending in Congress is passed, Independence County veterans will collect $298,258.20, according to an estimate made in Washington.
