New jail likely to break ground next summer

A lone church stands across the empty lot that will be the site of the future Sharp County Jail. The lot will be across from the intersection of Court and Arnhart Streets in Ash Flat, behind the site of the current jail. Construction is expected to start next summer and will likely take around 18 months, possibly shorter. The 100-bed facility is using the current jail in Lawrence County as a template and the construction is being handled by Southbuild, the firm that handled the construction of Lawrence County Jail.
